Ecobond Water Applications for Sustainable Water Management
1. Rainwater Harvesting, Storage and Conveying
Spray Ecobond onto a cleared slope or use Ecobond treated roads as harvesting pads. The water does not permeate into the soil but runs off to where it can be used.
Harvesting Capacity
- 1 hectare (10,000m²) harvests 5 million litres p.a. (500mm rainfall)
- Karoo areas: 2 million litres p.a. (200mm rainfall)
Rainwater Savings Bank
Store clean, sweet (no salts) rainwater to bridge dry periods and maintain profitable yields, saving crops and animals.

2. Ecobond Lined Water Storage Ponds
Earth dams often leak less each year until fines seal the tiny voids. Ecobond can cheaply accelerate this process to contain water more effectively:
- Immediately or in 1 season at low cost
- Instead of waiting 4+ years for natural sealing
- Use Ecobond mix-in, spray-on or slurry membrane seals
- Combination approaches available
3. Waste Water Treatment Ponds
80% of all sewage worldwide is not treated because it is too expensive. Ecobond can cut these costs to less than half by:
- Strengthening in situ or imported soils
- Making treatment areas water resistant
- Reducing construction and maintenance costs
- Enabling affordable sewage treatment solutions
4. Containment Technology and Evaporation Ponds
Mine Closures
Lower cost mine closures while communities can sustain themselves long term with Ecobond membranes separating polluted from clean soils.
Water Separation
Keep new rainwater above membranes for agriculture or guide to separated clean ponds/dams.
Purifying relatively clean separated water is easier and more cost-effective for communities.
